International Yoga Day Celebration – “Yoga Sangama – 2025”

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Department of PG Studies in Swasthavritta and Yoga of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Ayurveda College, Hospital and Research Centre, Udupi, in association with Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, New Delhi, organized the International Yoga Day – “Yoga Sangama” program at the college on 21st June 2025.
The inaugural ceremony of Yoga Sangama – 2025 was conducted by Dr. Kaustubh Upadhyay, Ayurveda Advisor, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. In his address, he highlighted the significance of Yoga Sangama and explained ten key initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of AYUSH, emphasizing that through the practice of yoga, we can all remain healthy.
Mr. Yashpal Anand Suvarna, MLA, Udupi Assembly Constituency, who attended the event as a guest, stated that yoga is the foundation of physical and mental well-being, and it is beneficial for everyone to practice it daily.
Another guest, Mr. Gurme Suresh Shetty, MLA, Kaup Assembly Constituency, said that India is a land of diverse cultures and that food and yoga—important elements in elderly care—contribute to a healthy life.
Mr. K. Virupaksha, former Member of Parliament, Koppal Lok Sabha Constituency, emphasized that India has attained the status of “Vishwaguru” (world teacher) in the field of Yoga, and by incorporating Yoga into their lives, individuals can achieve holistic personal development.
Mr. Prabhakar Poojary, President, Udupi City Municipality, extended his best wishes to the program. Dr. Mohammed Rafiq, Director of Beach Healing Wellness Centre, Hoode, another chief guest, remarked that yoga has gained immense popularity and should become a part of everyone’s daily routine.
The program was presided over by Dr. Mamatha K.V., Principal of the institution, who emphasized that yoga practice should not be limited to a one-day event but should become a regular habit. Dr. Nagaraj S., Chief Medical Superintendent of the Ayurveda Hospital, was present on the dais.
Dr. Vijay B. Negalur, Nodal Officer of Yoga Sangama, welcomed everyone with his introductory remarks. Dr. Yogeesh Acharya delivered the vote of thanks. Dr. Sandesh Kumar compered the event.
Around 800 participants took part in the event and performed yoga.
The yoga practice session was led by Dr. Srinidhi Dhanya and Dr. Arpana Radhesh.
Dr. Sowmya Bhat, along with the teaching and non-teaching staff, students of the institution, and members of the public, were present for the program.
