Celebration of Shishyopanayana Samskara

The 27th Shishyopanayana Samskara Ceremony of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Ayurveda College, Hospital and Research Centre was held on 29-11-2024. The holy rituals commenced with a Dhanwanthari Homa followed by Dhanwantari pooja at the Bhavaprakasha Auditorium.

Dr. Mamatha K.V., Principal of the College, who chaired the event, encouraged the students to preserve and cultivate the plant species, also develop an interest in the Sanskrit language, and spread the knowledge of Ayurveda through new innovations. Dr. M.R. Vasudevan Namboothiri, the former Director of Ayurveda Medical Education, Govt. of Kerala, who was the chief guest at the event, emphasized the importance of the Shishyopanayana Samskara. He also spoke about the contributions of the college in the fields of Ayurveda and social work, and urged the students to practice medicine with integrity. Dr. Nagaraj S., the Medical Supervisor, welcomed the guests and explained the purpose of the Shishyopanayana Samskara. Dr. Shrilatha Kamath, Dean Academics read the best wish messages. Dr. Veerakumara K, Dean Administration administered the oath to the newly admitted students. Dr. Rajaneesh V Giri, U G dean gave introduction about the chief guest.

The inauguration of the ‘Parikshi’ Sanskrit Language Laboratory was conducted, a collaborative effort between the Ayurveda and Sanskrit departments, aimed at fostering academic excellence and growth. Dr. Shrinidhi Dhanya, Assistant Professor in the Swasthavritta Department, donated a valuable ancient palm-leaf manuscript from his family heritage to the college. On the occasion of the birthday of Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala and President of SDM Educational Institutions, a portrait making competition for students was organized and prizes were distributed to the winners.

To commemorate World Diabetes Day, a quiz competition was held in collaboration with IQAC, Roganidana department and Green Remedies. Prizes were given to the winners. On the occasion of Dhanwanthari Jayanti, the Ayurveda Academy of Bangalore organized a State-Level Inter-Ayurveda College Competition under the theme "Swasthya Masa" Our college students secured the Overall Championship for the 7th consecutive year, and the award was presented during this ceremony.

Dr. Ashok Kumar B.N., Dean, PG & Ph.D. Studies delivered the vote of thanks. Dr. Arhanth Kumar, Associate Professor in the Samhita Siddhanta and Sanskrit Department hosted the event. The program concluded with a cultural performance titled ‘Ujjwala’ by the students.
