Basic and Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program – 2026
Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Ayurveda,Hospital and Research Centre Kuthpadi, Udupi, Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Department of PG Studies in Kaumarabhritya in association with IAP, NNF and KMC Manipal had organized a National Level workshop – “Navajata Shishu Suraksha Karyakrama – 2026”: Basic and Advance Neonatal Resuscitation program on 31st July and 1st August 2026, in Bhavaprakasha Auditorium, SDM College of Ayurveda, Hospital and Research Centre, Kuthpady, Udupi.
Inaugural function was conducted on 31.07.2026 at Bhavaprakasha Auditorium. Every child has a right to live a healthy life. The percentage of assistance requiring deliveries are less, but, if the baby does not cry at birth due to asphyxia, the resultant outcome will be a permanent handicap. Hence a skilled team for resuscitation is essential, which the main purpose of this workshop – The Chief guest of inauguration and the Lead Instructor of workshop, Dr. Leslie Edward Lewis, Professor Pediatrics, KMC Manipal had addressed the delegates.
Dr Mamatha KV, Principal delivered the presidential address emphasised the importance and presence of a skilled, confident neonatologist at the delivery point. She highlighted the necessity and purpose of the workshop exemplifying that the neonatal asphyxia after any delivery imposes profound health problems like cerebral palsy, seizures, developmental delay, failure to thrive etc later in their life. Hence every delivery should be considered as precious and almost care has to be provided for the newborns overall health during first golden minute after birth. She congratulated the organizing department and encouraged the delegates to utilize this opportunity to the fullest.
The resource persons Dr.Mithun H K, Pediatrician Yenapoya Hospital, Mangalore, Dr. Kambalabettu Zohara Parveen, Pediatrician, Father Muller Medical College and Hospital, Mangalore, Dr. Sannidhi Nayak, Consultant Pediatrician, TMA Pai Rotary Hospital, Karkala had their gracious presence on the stage. Hands on training was given to 46 delegates of different institutions
On 1st August Advance NRP was conducted at KMC Manipal under the visionary guidance of Dr Leslie Edward Lewis, Professor Pediatrics, Head Neonatology, KMC Manipal, in the morning session. In the Afternoon session, Dr Janardhana Prabhu, Consultant Pediatrician and Neonatologist, Hitech Hospital, Udupi elaborated the ‘Invasive and Non invasive and non invasive respiratory support principles and settings in newborn care’ at Bhavaprakasha Auditorium.
In the valedictory function Dr. Shailaja U Principal SDM Ayurveda College, Hassan was the special, who appreciated the organizing Department for the selection of Neonatal Resuscitation theme for the workshop. The chief guest Dr. Janardhana Prabhu had highlighted the availability of current facilities for Neonatal resuscitation and to utilize the gained knowledge to the fullest. The Contribution of the Kaumarabhritya Department to the academic growth and social services is seamless – said Dr. Shrikanth P, Dean PG Studies, in presidential address. The delegates have wholeheartedly appreciated the organization of workshop for 2 days followed by the distribution of certificates by the dignitaries. Dr Nagaratna S J, Associate Professor welcomed the gathering. The NRP course coordinator Dr. Kavya, proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Chithralekha and Dr. Priyanka Y, Assistant Professors and all the PG scholars of department of Kaumarabhritya were present throughout the sessions.
