
AIDS Awareness Program
SDM College of Ayurveda, Hospital, and Research Centre, Udupi, Youth Red Cross unit under the Community Service Wing, in association with the Department of Dravyaguna, organized a Guest lecture and awareness program on AIDS, along with a poster-making competition to spread awareness about the disease on 20th March 2025.
The event was presided over by Dr. Mamatha K.V., Principal, who emphasized that raising awareness about AIDS is not just the duty of the government but also a responsibility of Ayush doctors. She urged every Ayurveda practitioner to educate at least one individual about AIDS, highlighting the collective impact such efforts could have. She also spoke about the growing demand for nutraceuticals in chronic diseases, encouraging students to explore research opportunities in this field.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Shrikanth P, Head of the Dravyaguna Department, setting the stage for an insightful discussion. The resource person, Dr. Mahabaleshwar from the District AIDS Control and Prevention Division, Udupi, spoke about AIDS awareness and prevention, stressing the importance of early detection, safe practices, and community involvement. Dr. Mohammed Faisal, Associate Professor, Department of Dravyaguna, highlighted the Role of medicinal plants in the management of AIDS, showcasing Ayurveda’s potential contributions in patient care.
As part of the program, a Poster-Making Competition was conducted, where participants creatively depicted various aspects of AIDS awareness. Prizes were distributed to the winners, recognizing their efforts in spreading awareness through art.
The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Vidyalakshmi, Community Service Head; Shrinidhi Dhanya NSS officer; Dr. Suma V Mallya, Professor, Department of Dravyaguna, Dr. Aniruddha, Youth Red Cross member; Dr. Thejaswini, Assistant Professor, Dravyaguna Department Dr. Poornima, Assistant Professor, Dravyaguna Department; Dr. and Dr Punith Assistant professor, Dept of Manasa roga. The program was coordinated by Dr. Rashmi N.R, Member Youth Red Cross, ensuring its smooth execution. The event successfully enhanced awareness of AIDS, reinforced the role of Ayurveda in healthcare, and encouraged students to engage in community service initiatives.
