
A State level CME on Down syndrome Day Celebration
Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of ayurveda Hospital and Research Centre Kuthpady, Udupi, organized a State level CME on account of DOWN SYNDROME DAY on 29th March 2025 in the guidance and incomparable support of the department of Kaumarabhritya in association with Nestle.
The inauguration ceremony took place in the Department of Kaumarabhritya at 09:30 AM with the gracious presence of Dr Vivekananda, Assistant professor Department of Medical Genetics, Kasturba Medical College Manipal, who was the chief guest alongside other dignitaries like Dr. Mamatha K V, Principal SDM Ayurveda Hospital Udupi, Dr. Nagaraj S, Medical superintendent SDM Ayurveda Hospital Udupi and Dr. Prathviraj Puranik, HOD Kaumarabhritya SDM Ayurveda Hospital Udupi.
The Programme started by invoking the blessing of the almighty through the prayer by Dr. Lakshmi and the welcome address was delivered by Dr. PrathviRaj Puranik along with the Floral greeting.
Dr. Mamatha K V, in her presidential speech provided insight about how genetics can be understood from Ayurvedic point of view.
The event continued with the insightful words by the chief guest Dr. Vivekananda, who addressed the gathering About the incidence and prevalence of Down Syndrome. Dr. Nagaraj S, special guest also talked about the involvement of genetics in down syndrome.
The first session was conducted by Dr. Vivekananda, Assistant professor Department of Medical Genetics, Kasturba Medical College Manipal, where he gave an introduction to Down syndrome, its clinical features and molecular mechanism behind it, he also informed the crowd about the diagnostic techniques which can be taken in the prenatal period and its management, the interactive session was a success.
Dr. Sindhu M A, Associate Professor, department of Kaumarabhritya, Yenepoya Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital Mangalore, held the next session about Down syndrome and its Clinical features in Ayurveda, she also discussed the pathology behind it and its special management through Ayurveda. She also answered several questions.
Another resource person of the event, Dr. Janardan Prabhu, consultant Paediatrician HITECH Medicare Hospital Udupi, provided valuable counsel on recent advancement in preterm Management, he also gave a brief introduction on preterm babies, their growth and nutrition requirements.

The dignitaries of this function were welcomed by Dr. Ketaki, 2nd year PG Scholar of department of Kaumarabhritya with floral greetings.
Dr. Lakshmi 3rd year PG Scholar of department of Kaumarabhritya proposed the vote of thanks for the event. 35 beneficiaries, delegates and lecturers attended this programme.
Dr. Chithralekha, Assistant Professor department of Kaumarabhritya was the chief coordinator of the event. Dr. Sahana Shankari Associate Professor and Dr. Kavya Assistant Professor also supported the event.
This event was hosted by Dr. Likitha M V 2nd year PG Scholar and Dr. Vaishnavi 1st year PG Scholars from the department of kaumarabhritya.
