Street play- World Breastfeeding Week 2026
As part of World Breastfeeding Week 2026, a street play was performed on 12/8/26 in the premises of SDM College of Ayurveda, Hospital & Research Centre, Kuthpady, Udupi, organized by PG Department of Kaumarabhritya, to create awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding. Act performed by undergraduates depicted the importance of breastfeeding in promoting child’s growth, development, and immunity. The audience was encouraged to follow appropriate infant feeding practices.
The street play highlighted the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months. It was also emphasized that formula milk should not be used unnecessarily in situations where breastfeeding is possible.
Through demonstrations, the street play showcased the correct breastfeeding techniques, including proper body positioning while breastfeeding, the correct method of holding the baby, and the correct technique of attachment. The importance of proper practices for effective breastfeeding and maternal rest was also explained.
It was conveyed to the general public that breastfeeding not only provides the growing infant with all necessary nutrients but also supplies the vitamins essential for brain development. It was further highlighted that breastfeeding helps protect mothers from breast and ovarian cancer, in addition to strengthening the bond between mother and child.
The program was interactive and informative, creating good awareness among mothers and caregivers about the importance of breastfeeding and appropriate infant feeding practices.
Principal Dr. Mamata K.V. and Head of the Department of Kaumarabhritya Dr. Prathviraj Puranik were present in the program. Program coordinator Dr. Sahana Shankari, along with Assistant Professors Dr. Chitralekha, Dr. Kavya, and Dr. Priyanka Y, extended their support. Hospital doctors, undergraduate and postgraduate students, mothers, pregnant women, health seekers, nurses, and staff participated in the event.
