Udupi, June 4: On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, a Medicinal Plant Plantation Programme was organized on June 2 and 4 at the Medicinal Plant Garden of SDM College of Ayurveda, Udupi.

The programme was jointly organized by the Department of Dravyaguna Vijnana in association with Community Services, the NSS Unit, and the Campus Enrichment Committee. The initiative aimed to create environmental awareness among students and encourage their active participation in biodiversity conservation.

Students of II BAMS enthusiastically participated in the plantation drive and a total of 100 students took part in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shrikanth P., Head of the Department of Dravyaguna Vijnana, emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable living. Highlighting the inseparable relationship between Ayurveda and nature, he stated that the conservation of medicinal plants is essential for safeguarding the health and well-being of future generations. He also encouraged students to actively participate in environmental protection activities.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Mohammed Faisl, Associate Professor, Department of Dravyaguna Vijnana, and Dr. Shreyasri N. Suvarna, Assistant Professor, Department of Kayachikitsa. Faculty members including Dr. Ravikrishna, Dr. Tejaswi Naik, Dr. Poornima, and Dr. Aneesh were also present.

Conducted in line with the objectives of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), the programme promoted eco-friendly practices and enhanced awareness regarding the importance of medicinal plants. Students also gained practical exposure to the planting and maintenance of medicinal species. The event concluded successfully and served as a meaningful step towards creating a greener and healthier environment.
