
World Breastfeeding week 2025
On the occasion of World Breast feeding week 2025 an online awareness programme was organized by department of Kaumarabhritya on 05/08/2025 for breast feeding mothers on the topic “Prioritizing Beast Feeding – Myths and Facts”. Dr Sahana Shankari was the resource person who gave light on different techniques of feeding and advantages to mother and child. This was followed by a street play, organized by Department of Kaumarabhritya in association with Rotaract club, Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Ayurveda, Hospital and Research Centre, Kuthpady, Udupi on 06/08/2025 at 11-12pm in front of Dhanvantari statue of the hospital to create awareness on advantages of breast feeding to both mother and child.
The act demonstrated the breast-feeding mothers and the public that it prevents breast and ovarian cancer, helps to regain back the original physical structure of the mother and helps to establish good physical and psychological bond between mother and child. It also provides all necessary nutrients, immune factors to prevent from infectious diseases, digestive enzymes for healthy up brining of child. It prevents respiratory and GIT disorders, helps in proper growth and development of the children. The act conveyed the breast milk is a nectar to child and everyone should promote breast feeding in the society. Around seventy-five members including breast feeding mothers, patients, nurses, undergraduate students and post graduates of different department, junior doctors, non-teaching staffs, HODs and consultants of different departments of the hospital witnessed the event.
Smt. Shashikala Rajan, President, Rotary Club, Manipal was the chief guest, Dr.Mamatha KV, Principal SDMCAH & R, Udupi was the president of the event. Dr. Nishanth Pai K, Sr. Consultant cum Administrator, SDM Ayurveda Hospital, Udupi, graced the occasion with his presence. Dr.Prathviraj Puranik, HOD, Dr Kavya, Asst. Professor, Dr.Chitralekha, Asst. Professor and Dr. Anju K.L., Asst. Professor were present. Dr Sahana Shankari, Asso. Professor coordinated the event.
