8th Ayurveda Day celebration- School Herb Garden Development program
On account of 8th National Ayurveda day, Dept. of Dravyaguna conducted School herb garden development programme by planting medicinal plants in Morarji Desai residential schools of Udupi District. In an area of 500 square meter of these residential schools various medicinal plants like Brahmi, Amalaki, Shigru, Agnimantha, Nirgundi etc around 150 plants have been planted. On this occasion awareness programme on medicinal plants, their use in primary health care management was delivered to students from the expert speakers of SDM college of Ayurveda, Udupi. This whole programme was funded by National Medicinal Plant Board Delhi for the development of school herb garden in 10 residential schools of Udupi district. Programme Coordinator Dr. Suma Mallya said till now they have developed in five residential school like, Moraji Desai residential school Aruru, Brahmavara, Patla, Miyaru- Karkala, Kalathuru -Kaup and Navodya school Hebri. Principal Dr. Mamatha K.V. said as college having large herb garden with 500 varieties of medicinal plants, with which they can prepare saplings and can spread this greenery to nearby residential school so as to spread the knowledge of medicinal plants to each and every one.
