Assurance Cell and Department of Kaumarabhritya organised CME program for teachers of
Kaumarabhritya from 28th August to 2nd September 2023 sponsored by Ministry of Ayush,
Government of India, New Delhi coordinated by Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth, New Delhi
The program started on 28/8/2023 with inaugural function. Dr. Prathviraj Puranik chief organising
secretary of CME Professor and HOD, Department of Kaumarabhritya, SDMCA, Udupi escorted
the dignitaries to dias. On the dias Dr. Mamatha K V, President, Principal, SDMCA, Udupi; Dr.
Nagaraj S, Medical Superintendent, SDMAH, Udupi; Dr. Shrilatha Kamath, Dean Academics,
SDMCA, Udupi; Dr. Ashok B N, Dean PG & PhD Studies, SDMCA, Udup; Dr. Renu Rathi, Guest
speaker, Professor & Head, Department of Kaumarabhritya, Mahatma Gandhi Ayurveda College
Hospital and Research Centre, Wardha; Dr. Prathviraj Puranik, Chief Organizer, Prof & Head Dept
of Kaumarabhritya, SDMCA Udupi were present
For seeking blessings of almighty, invocation was done by Dr. Sahana Shankari, Associate
Professor, Department of Kaumarabhritya, SDMCA, Udupi. Welcome address was given by Dr
Prathviraj Puranik followed by welcoming of dignitaries with floral greetings. Program was
inaugurated by lighting lamp by the dignitaries in the dias. Welcome speech was given by Dr.
Nagaraj S. Speech highlighted about importance of RAV, about current curriculum, teaching,
publications etc along with welcoming of delegates to the CME program. Presidential address was
delivered by Dr. Mamatha K V. Speech highlighted about shifting of teaching methodologies,
importance of clinical classes, propagation of Ayurveda etc. Vote of thanks was given by Dr.
Nagaratna J, Associate Prof, Dept of Kaumarabhritya, SDMCA Udupi. The master of ceremony
was Dr. Kavya, Assistant Professor, Department of Kaumarabhritya, SDMCA, Udupi A total of 30
delegates from different parts of the country attended the CME.
On day 1, first session was by Dr. Renu Rathi, Professor & Head, Department of Kaumarabhritya,
Mahatma Gandhi Ayurveda College Hospital and Research Centre, Wardha on the topic
Fundamental session on Kaumarabhritya. Session covered significance and scope Kaumarabhritya,
National health programs, common treatments, drug doses etc.
Second session was done by Dr. Ravikrishna S, Associate Professor, Department of Agadatantra,
SDM College of Ayurveda, Udupi, on the topic Teaching Technology and Research Methodology
which elaborately discuss about Blooms taxonomy, prism, teaching learning process etc also
activity was given to delegates for formulating a research topic in Kaumarabhritya. Third session
was also engaged by Dr. Renu Rathi. Discussion about types of articles, step by step process,
primary goal in publication in indexed journal, awareness on various guidelines etc were done.
Second day of CME started with a pre-test followed by a session by Dr. Srinidhi Kumar Acharya,
Associate Professor, Department of PG Studies in Kaumarabhritya, National Institute of Ayurveda
(NIA), Deemed to be University, Jaipur, Rajasthan on the topic Paediatric disorders: Grahas and
Bala Graha. Session started with discussing why Graha roga became outdated. Detailed discussion
on Graha roga, Grahabada, similarities between graha and microorganism, about Bhuta Pretha
Pishacha etc where done. Second and third session were engaged by Dr. Harsha Prasada L,
Consultant Paediatric Haematology and Oncology, KMC Hospital, Mangalore, Associate Professor,
Department of Paediatrics, KMC, MAHE, Manipal on the topic Common Paediatric Gastro-
intestinal disorders. Session covered presentation and red flags of GA condition such as vomiting,
GERD, constipation, jaundice, acute gastroenteritis, acute abdominal pain etc. Third session covers
haematological problems such as Anaemia, Leukopenia, Leucocytosis, Bleeding tendencies etc.
Fourth session was by Dr. Srinidhi Kumar Acharya which discussed about infectious disease its
prevention & transmission, treatment of Graha roga, Ayurvedic protocol for infectious control etc.
On Day 3, 1st session was by Dr. Reena Kulkarni, Professor & Head, Department of
Kaumarabhritya, SDM Institute of Ayurveda and Hospital, Bengaluru on the topic Paediatric
musculoskeletal disorders: Recent updates and evidence based Ayurvedic management. Session
elaborately discussed about Neuromuscular disorders, Muscular Dystrophy, Mamsakshaya lakshana
and chikitsa, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Congenital Myopathy, Cerebral palsy and its Ayurvedic
perspective. Second session was dealt by Dr. Aziz Arbar, Consulting Ayurvedic Paediatrician &
Neonatologist, Professor and HOD, Dept of Kaumarabhritya, KLES Ayurveda Hospital, BMK,
Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Belgavi. Topic of the session was about teaching skills. Also, delegates
shared their experiences as a learner when they were child. Third session was about common
paediatric cardiovascular disorders by Dr. Reena Kulkarni. Session covered Fetal circulation,
Congenital Heart Disease, Acquired Heart Disease, Ayurvedic perspective, Rheumatic fever etc
Fourth session was engaged by Dr. Aziz Arbar on the topic approach to making diagnosis and
designing management for sick and healthy child. Whole delegates were divided into 6 groups and
each group were given topic for class presentation.
Day 4 first session was by Dr. Prathviraj Puranik, Professor & Head, Department of
Kaumarabhritya, SDM College of Ayurveda, Udupi. Session discussed in detail on the topic
Diagnosis and management of common life-threatening neonatal disorders: Recent updates and
evidence. Second session was engaged by Dr. Dinesh K S, Professor and Head, Department of
Kaumarabhritya, Vaidyaratnam PS Varier Ayurveda college, Kottakkal, Kerala. Topic of the
session was Common paediatric endocrinal & metabolic disorders: Recent updates (Ayurveda /
Modern medicines) and evidence – based Ayurvedic Supportive management. A detailed discussion
about interpretation of disease in terms of Ayurveda and key procedure to select drug or treatment
where done. Third session was again by Dr. Prathviraj Puranik which discussed about tools for
better progeny. Session covered Garbha sambhava samagri till post-natal care. Fourth session was
by Dr. Dinesh K S, which discussed AGASTYA protocol for management of children with ASD.
Also, delegate have shared their treatment experiences.
On day 5 first session was by Dr. Vijayalaxmi Mallanavar, Professor, Department of
Kaumarabhritya, SDM College of Ayurveda & Hospital, Hassan on the topic Aharo hi
Mahabhaishajyam which elaborately discussed concept of nutrition in Ayurveda, importance of
breastfeeding, weaning, about micro and macronutrients. Second session was by Dr. Rahul Haridas
Gujarathi, Professor, Department of Kaumarabhritya, Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be
University), Pune. Topic of the session was Navajatha Shishu Ahara and Ahara – Vidhi (Neonatal
food and feeding). Elaborate discussion on neonatal nutrition, feeding methods, supplements and
also Ayurvedic view were dealt in the session. Third session was by Dr. Vijayalaxmi Mallanavar
which discussed nutritional disorders. Session highlighted on Sthanya Dushti, Balashosha, Phakka,
Malnutrition, PEM etc. Fourth session was engaged by Dr. Rahul Haridas Gujarathi, which discuss
about paediatric disorders of growth and development. Session mainly dealt growth failure, red flag
in growth and development, growth hormone treatment, developmental delays etc.
On 6th day of CME first session was by Dr. Roshni Aniruddhan, Professor, Department of
Kaumarabhritya, Govt Ayurveda College, Trivandrum on the topic Paediatric Neurological
disorders: Recent updates and evidence based Ayurvedic management. Session highlighted on static
encephalopathy, progressive encephalopathy, cranial nerve palsies, neural tube defect and
hydrocephalus along with successful case studies. Second session was by Dr. Anil Kumar,
Professor, School of Fundamental Research in Ayurveda, Kerala University of Health Sciences on
the topic Common paediatric urinary disorders: recent updates (Ayurvedic / modern medicines) and
evidence based Ayurvedic management. Detailed discussion on Mootra, Kleda, Mootra pareeksha
basic treatment principle along with some successful case studies were included in the session. The
3rd session was again by Dr. Roshni Aniruddhan on paediatric respiratory disorders. Elaborate
discussion and specific Ayurvedic practices in Kerala were enlisted on Kasa, adenoiditis, tonsillitis,
allergic disorders etc. Last session was by Dr. Anil Kumar on skin disorders and its management.

The valedictory program of CME for teachers of Kaumarabhritya was conducted on 2nd September

Udupi escorted the dignitaries to the dias. On the dias Dr. Nagaraj S, president of ceremony,
Medical Superintendent, SDMAH, Udupi; Dr. Roshni Anirudhan, Chief Guest, Professor
Department of Kaumarabhritya, Govt Ayurveda College, Trivandrum; Dr. Shrilatha Kamath, Dean
Academics, SDMCA, Udupi; Dr. Ashok B N, Dean PG & PhD Studies, SDMCA, Udupi; Dr.
Prathviraj Puranik, Chief Organizer, Prof & Head Dept of Kaumarabhritya, SDMCA Udupi were
present. The program began with invocation by Dr Kavya, Assistant Professor, Department of
Kaumarabhritya, SDMCA Udupi. Welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Prathviraj Puranik
followed by floral welcoming of dignitaries on the dias. Guest speech was given by Dr. Roshni
Anirudhan which highlighted the effectiveness of CME. Token of gratitude was handed over to Dr.
Roshni Anirudhan by Dr. Nagaraj S. Detailed report reading of 6-day CME was done by Dr.
Chithralekha, Assistant Professor, Department of Kaumarabhritya, SDMCA Udupi. Feedback from
delegates were taken. Dr. Vinayak, Dr. Archana & Dr. Eishan voluntarily represented whole
delegates and shared their experiences about CME. Distribution of certificate to delegates and
organisers were done by the dignitaries. Presidential address was given by Dr. Nagaraj S. Speech
highlighted curriculum change, need of paediatric treatment standardisation etc. Grievances if any
from delegates were also enquired. Vote of thanks was given by Dr Kavya. The master of ceremony
